Whether you’re using an online or computer-based image-editing application, there’s little you can do to fix a pixelated picture, but there are a few things you can do to salvage as much of the picture’s quality as possible. Whichever type of application you use, you’ll need to load the picture onto a personal computer before you attempt to fix it.
Basic Fix
Assortments of online image-editing software applications give you a few basic tools to repair the content of your digital images. Upload the image you want to edit to the application’s website through a portal that is typically labeled “Upload.” Once the pixelated image is on the application’s website, you can attempt to fix it by choosing the application’s basic “Fix” or “Repair” tool. This option takes the available pixels and fills in any gaps or imperfections that exist by duplicating nearby content in an attempt to smooth out the picture’s details.
Hiding Method
You can use an online image-editing website’s tools to mask or hide your pixelated picture’s imperfections by using the site’s special effects features. Special effects tools alter the image’s contents in a manner that makes them display differently. For instance, using the blueprint or painting special effects tool changes the image to appear as if it was partly illustrated, making the image’s pixelated state less noticeable or not noticeable at all. This method works best with images that are only slightly pixelated.
Cropping, Contrast and Brightness
If only part of your image is pixelated, you can use an online image-editing website’s crop tool to eliminate the imperfect parts of the picture. Adjusting your image’s contrast and brightness levels are also effective ways to cover up digital image imperfections. Each of these tools is available in the photo-editing website’s tool palette. If you employ these methods, be sure to save the changes you make before you save the photo directly to the website or download it back onto your computer.
Considerations
Sometimes, a slightly-pixelated picture’s imperfections are less noticeable if you reduce the photo’s size. If the picture is intended for use on the Internet, such as on a blog or social networking website, a smaller picture is acceptable and is an effective way to minimize, if not eliminate, the pixelation’s evidence. If you’re adept at using advanced image-editing software applications that operate directly on your computer, such as Photoshop, you can use the program’s brush, stamp and clone tools to smooth out the contents of your pixelated image.
